Lazy Chief is named after Steve’s cat who would sit beside him in a tight circle as he worked.
Hello there!
Lazy Chief is the work of director and designer Steve West. With a love of learning about the world around us and interpreting complex topics to bring joy and enlightenment, Lazy Chief uses illustration, animation, 2D & 3D CGI to bring information to life for brands, agencies, and educators.
Working with flexible teams and creative minds internationally between London and New York, we enjoy collaborating with musicians, writers and other artists. Why not get in touch and say hello?
“Absolutely stunning, constantly inventive and beautiful and poetic. More than I could ever have hoped for.”
— Alain de Botton: Author

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Lazy Chief on a number of different projects over the years. They are remarkably versatile and are great at taking complex ideas and turning them into beautiful animations that clarify the content and bring it to life. They are also a pleasure to work with and good with deadlines. I’m always happy to work with Lazy Chief!”
— Carolyn Merriman: Executive Producer, Future of Storytelling
“[Understanding Perception] is a mind-altering explanation of the way that evolution has shaped the way we perceive the world. Rendered in a simple two-tone style, Lazy Chief did a superb job illustrating the underlying concepts, often going beyond a simple say-cow-see-cow approach.”
